A Night with Château Margaux and d’Yquem

Some evenings remind you why the world’s greatest wines continue to captivate collectors.

Earlier this month, Benchmark Wine Group gathered with collectors for a private Château Margaux dinner at Marcello’s in Sarasota.

The intimate gathering focused on one of Bordeaux’s most legendary estates. For those in attendance, the evening offered a rare opportunity to experience multiple vintages of First Growth Château Margaux, paired thoughtfully with a menu designed to highlight the character of each wine.

It was the kind of night that brings together history, craftsmanship, and the shared appreciation that defines fine wine collecting.

A Rare Château Margaux Event

The Sarasota dinner stood out for one reason. Château Margaux has hosted only one other event in Florida.

The intimate scale of the dinner allowed guests to experience the wines in a setting that felt personal and focused.

Château Margaux sourced the wines directly from its cellars, ensuring impeccable provenance and condition.

The evening began with Pavillon Blanc 2017. From the first glass, the wine showed remarkable freshness, followed by Pavillon Rouge 2020, the second wine of Château Margaux. These wines set the stage for the centerpiece of the evening.

The Château Margaux vintages, included:

  • Château Margaux 2010
  • Château Margaux 2008
  • Château Margaux 2005
  • Château Margaux 1995

Tasting multiple vintages side by side revealed the remarkable consistency and elegance that have defined Château Margaux for centuries. The younger vintages showed precision and energ, where as the older wines revealed layered complexity and maturity.

The Grand Finale: Château d’Yquem 1990

No great Bordeaux dinner would feel complete without a memorable finish.

The evening concluded with Château d’Yquem 1990 served from a three liter format, a wine widely considered one of the estate’s most celebrated vintages. Even after decades in the bottle, the wine remains vibrant and deeply expressive, showing the richness, balance, and longevity that make Yquem one of the most collectible wines in the world.

Poured in large format, the wine added a sense of occasion that perfectly closed the evening.

Moments That Define Collecting

Experiences like this are rare. Wines of this caliber are often encountered one bottle at a time, sometimes years apart. Tasting multiple vintages in a single evening offers a deeper understanding of how great wines evolve across time.

More importantly, evenings like this show that wine collecting is not just about buying bottles. It is about sharing them.

At Benchmark Wine Group, connecting collectors with these moments is an important part of what we do.

A New Parcel Inspired by the Evening

Shortly after the Sarasota dinner, BWG received a new collection of First Growth Bordeaux and Château d’Yquem.

The parcel includes wines from Lafite Rothschild, Latour, Margaux, Mouton Rothschild, and Haut-Brion, offering collectors an opportunity to strengthen the very top of their cellar.

Many bottles remain in original wooden cases, and every wine has been professionally stored, inspected, and fully backed by our Provenance Guarantee

As always, Benchmark Wine Group backs every bottle with its Provenance Guarantee, ensuring authenticity, pristine condition, and complete peace of mind.

Private Wine Dinners and Tastings

At Benchmark Wine Group, our role extends beyond sourcing rare bottles. We love giving collectors the chance to experience the wines that define fine wine.

Private dinners, tastings, and collector events like the Château Margaux evening in Sarasota are one way we bring those experiences to life.

In the end, the most memorable wines are rarely just purchased. They’re shared.

Cheers,
The BWG team
